NOR 614 - Status per 4. December 2009

The demolition team is active and the deck has been removed. We did get some surprises, but nothing we cannot handle.. What we discovered:

-          All deck beams on starboard and port side of the cockpit had cracked. Remedy: Change them. New parts arrive next week.

-          The top boards on each side of the boat have been subject to some root earlier and parts have been cut away, leaving the top board very uneven on both sides at say 3 meters length. Remedy: Cut away 1,5 cm of the 3 meters on each side and “glue” in a new peace of mahogany using epoxy and filler.

-          Top board was very dark and grease: Remedy: Airheater and scraper removed the worst, the rest was sanded down using my “beast” sanding machine…

NOR 614 (UK30) - RENOVATION STATUS PER 23. NOVEMBER

This BB-Blogg will from now on be in English, as a courtesy to the former owner in England, Simon Hendra.

Simon has expressed strong interest in following our progress on the boat, so here we go, Simon…

Status after three days of work:

We have scraped away the antifouling below waterline and the keel, and it looks very promising. No root!

The unoriginal wood edge on the side of the boat has been removed. It revealed that the body underneath really needs sanding down and some oil!

No present root, but it would have come after some more years.

We hoped to be able to keep the deck, but it has to go. We have root along parts the centre board and in the joints. Removal of the present anti-skid layer and sanding down of the deck would just mean sanding down the nails holding the deck, and.. we have to change at least 10 ribs. The latter will be easier when the deck is removed. Finally, a new deck will give us the opportunity to protect the deck on both sides with epoxy.

Are we OK with this? Yes! Thore Amundsen is already manufacturing the parts we need, including centre board, mast support, mahogany blocks, ribs etc.

The boat has several items of deck equipment which we will keep, among them support for paddles and tiller. The support for the “seagull” engine (se picture of Andreas) will be returned to England.

CU on the BB-Blog next week.

NOR-614: Ungdomsbåten i BB11-klassen!

Klargjøring for transport

BB11 i London City!

Tilbake i Norge!

NOR-614 (UK-30) vel tilbake i Norge etter 48 i utlandet…
